Holy Monastery of Vidiani
The monastery of Vidiani is located in the northwest side of the Plateau of Lasithi. It was founded around the middle of the 19th century by the hieromonk, Methodios Perakis, who was its first abbot, in the area of the settlement of Vides, a large family from Lasithi whose name it took. The simple, mainly one-storey buildings of the complex were structured in multiple gradients due to the steep slant of the ground, to the west and north of the single-nave catholicon. Despite its destruction in 1867 by the Turks, the monastery of Vidiani continued to function until 1968 when its last monk passed away. It was reconstituted and restored in the year 1991.
